V berth floatation

QUESTION????
I've been following this thread about the v berth flotation and I'm  
wondering how you know that the foam has shrunk or whatever. On my 88 model, it  is 
entirely encased in fiberglass and without cutting the v berth to shreds, I  
would never know the foams condition. Also, if it has shrunk, what caused  this?
