The next time you want to get close to the beach, try going in stern first.  
Raise the rudder and use the motor to steer. You can get into knee deep water  
without roughing up the bottom paint and the centerboard trunk. I use the 
main  anchor off the bow and then use a small mushroom anchor to keep the stern 
in  place.
