Mark,
I use a small plastic basket which I keep under the port seat in the  
cockpit. I got tired of trying to cram 150 feet of anchor line down a 3 inch  hole. 
It makes for setting and retrieval a lot easier. The basket has holes and  
looks like a miniature laundry basket. It came with the boat so I don't have any  
idea where to buy a replacement, but it has worked well for many years and it  
allows the line to dry out and not become moldy. I'm going to guess that it 
is  about eight inches deep and probably close to ten to twelve inches in  
diameter.
I use six feet of rubber coated chain which stays attached to the  anchor.
