Ed,
We have a Hoover Steam N Vac with a upholstery attachment. It did a great  
job without having to remove the covers. They have a special upholstery soap to  
use instead of the carpet cleaner. It removed all the sun tan lotion and of  
course any rum that was spilled by accident.
