Todd, 
First of all, you have great will power. I would have shot the ass hole the  
minute I saw it. Now, from where the oil is on the housing, it looks like the  
oil fill/check cover either leaked, was loose, or he left it off at some 
point.  You need to change the oil before using it.
Borrowing tools is a real sore spot with me and I seldom, if ever, loan  them 
out to anyone, especially a family member. If I do make the exception and  
loan something out, I expect it to come back in the same or better condition  
than when it left me. Sounds to me like you have more than enough reason with  
this incident to simply and emphatically say no to this jerk the next time he  
asks. No is definite. A very firm NO says it all. It usually won't bring up 
the  why word, but if it does, hit him with guns loaded.
