Tom,
I usually keep the covers over the front ports, but sometimes I get lazy  and 
when I return, water has collected.
If I want to open them right away I use a small plastic pail which I keep  on 
board and crack open the lowest corner and catch the water in the bucket. I  
then wipe the port dry with either paper towel or a cloth towel.
