Congratulations Bob, you qualify for the R22 extreme team. Your certificate and baseball cap will be in the mail shortly. Generally in those conditions, a reefed main and a furled genny will give you more forward thrust than having just the main out. Another way to reduce heeling and increase comfort level in this kind of wind is to drop the boom to the lowest position (IMF only). This is generally considered the first reef with the main sail. The boat will sail better, but you do have to watch your head. I'm not sure if the standard main sail boom has that option...help from others? RummySee the original archive post
