Bill, Kimberly and I moved to SC 15 years ago from northern Wisconsin. We had a nice, small house on a lake in Wisconsin so you can guess that I wanted to live on a lake again. Taxes are less on real estate, but they make it up in other ways ie: personal property taxes on cars boats, etc. Income taxes aren't bad and the general standard of living is good. There are several large towns close by including Atlanta and Greenville. Plenty to do and the lake water warms to a comfy 92 degrees during the summer. We have contemplated vacation homes either at Myrtle Beach or Savannah, but haven't done anything yet. Yes, I know, we live on a lake. Hartwell has about fifteen miles in length of sailing waters. Water is clean. There are problems with pcb's in some areas, but only effects fishing....if you eat what you catch. Price range for housing depends on what you are looking for and can afford. We really like this area and unless something changes in our work or personal lives, we plan on staying here. The mountains are visible on a clear day and the beach (Myrtle Beach) is a 4 1/2 hour drive. All things considered, we really like the area.
