If some of the crud is stuck to the tank itself, empty all but maybe two  
cups of gas and throw in some glass marbles. Put the cap on and do a dance with  
the tank. The marbles will loosen the crud. Empty the tank and rinse 
thoroughly  with fresh gas. Try to use a funnel with a screen when you fill the tank to 
 filter out crud before it enters the tank and then clogs you fuel filter on  
the engine. You will be surprised how much crap you will catch.
