Brad,
Propane prices are about to go through the roof due to a break in a  
distribution line which supplies two thirds of the country. I would go for a  kerosene 
or fuel oil powered torpedo heater. They can heat a space your size  very 
quickly and then be turned off or simply reduce the output. Down side is  that 
they tend to be noisy, but very fuel efficient and don't require outside  
venting.
