Dana, That's way up in the Iron Range. We were at Tower, MN many years ago on one of camping trips. Actually took the tour down into the Tower/Soudan mine. The wife and I are both originally from Wisconsin, but have been in SC for 18 years. I'll bet that I even know where you store the hatch key. :) _http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/soudan_underground_mine/index.html_ (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/soudan_underground_mine/index.html) Rummy In a message dated 12/5/2008 10:02:24 A.M. It is a bit smaller than the standard cooler, although I find that it has about the same storage capacity since I don't have chunks of ice or frozen bottles in there. I did the same research as AndrewCo regarding retrofitting the existing cooler. I found that almost all 12V cooling apparatus in this size range use the Danfoss BD35 compressor, and that insulation is the next most important criteria. Based on cost and hassle, I chose to go with a complete new fridge instead of a retrofit. I chose the CR-65 based mainly on exterior dimensions. I wish it was a little taller, but it was the closest to the correct dimensions that I could find. The bottom rear of the fridge is angled just right to accommodate the curvature of the hull, and the compressor is at the top rear with a fan that circulates air forward/aft. My boat is kept in the water all summer and I have power at the dock, so the fridge is kept cold all the time. If you see a blue '86 in a harbor on Leech Lake in northern MN during the summer, help yourself to a cold Corona. They're in there. :) -Dana --- On Fri, 12/5/08, R22RumRunner at aol.com <R22RumRunner at aol.com> wrote: From: R22RumRunner at aol.com <R22RumRunner at aol.com> Subject: Re: [Rhodes22-list] 12V refrigeration/freezers CR-65 To: rhodes22-list at rhodes22.org Date: Friday, December 5, 2008, 12:58 PM Dana, With 2 - 200 amp batteries you could go a lot longer than just a couple of days if you ran your motor (with charging coil) just a couple of times each day. This looks like a great unit, but the interior is a bit small. I guess they had to put the compressor somewhere. Rummy In a message dated 12/4/2008 10:58:08 P.M.
