Most, if not all of our anchoring is done in shallow waters in protected  
coves. We have had as many as four other boats rafting with us, all depending on  
our anchor. It held that day because it became lodged in a tree limb which I  
later pulled to the surface with the anchor. If it hadn't been for all the 
rum I  drank, it probably would have killed me getting that darn thing to the  
surface.
Since we live on the lake, overnighting isn't something we prefer to  
do.......unless we drink to much and decide to stay out because we can't make it  
home. And that has happened on occasion. Even then, we are in shallow (less than  
20') water in a protected cove.
My storage basket has finally disintegrated, so hopefully my replacement  
will be somewhat bigger, allowing me some extra line. 200 feet would be nice  
just in case.

Having said I'm not sure I went  and checked our equipment list in the 
front of our log book and it says  250 ft main rode and 200 ft 
secondary. I may have to confirm that - it  doesn't sound right to me. 
I must be getting old - I can't remember if I  know something or not. 
I know we switched rodes and chains around when we  switched anchors 
to the Fortress but now I don't know if I verified the  length of the 
rode then or not. Another project.

On the Fortress  website is a chart of the loads generated by 
sailboats of various lengths  in various strength winds. It is all 
hypothetical but not as much as you  might suspect.
