Rick,
You have hit the nail on the head. Most of the "problems" we discuss on  
this list are owner induced, not a factory build problem. Stan builds the R22 
to  be almost bullet proof, but not owner proof. Compression post problems 
are  usually the result of overtightening the stays or water infiltration 
which leads  to rot.

Mine is a '93.  It  has two fiberglass longitudinal stringers, probably used
to box in the  centerboard trunk and keel. Those stringers also support a
lateral stringer  which serves to raise the cabin sole for the head.  That
lateral  stringer was missed by the yard's initial inspection causing our
detour  down the gusset road.  IMO, the only way my forward cabin sole  
would
bow is if the whole keel ripped out.
