Jim,
A good friend of mine purchase a Rhodes 22 that was a salvage hull. It had
a large hole in the bottom, no mast and a host of other problems. He
rebuilt the boat and purchased a non-standard mast and rigged a boom which
allowed him to roll the main sail onto it. The boat has gone through at least
three other owners in recent history and it now belongs to John Locke of this
forum. Perhaps he could explain how it works and give you some details. It
might work for you.

Rummy,

I called General Boats just to be sure and got Stan on the phone. He
pretty
much echoed what you said - that he probably has a mast and maybe a boom,
stays etc but I would have to buy a new sail and it would probably be $4 to
$5K before I was done and he would not recommend putting so much into an
old
boat.

Although I still may consider it at a future time because I haven't seen
newer boats for less than 18K, it is not a situation in which one IMF
exists
that would fit my boat and I have to jump at it or lose the chance.
There are also other things I can do to make it the boat easier to
single-hand - like running the halyard back to the cockpit etc. - so I will
give it some time.

Jim
