Lou, GB doesn't recommend the use of any sealant on the CB cap. Rummy In a message dated 7/13/2009 10:11:29 A.M. I spent all day Friday and Saturday in the boat struggling to get the centerboard cap torqued enough so it wont leak. Main issue is the lack of quality in SS fasteners these days. Im using an electric JUST to get the bolts and nylock nuts snug, not torqued and went through more than 10 new 1/4x20 1 1/2" bolts due to strip outs and seizing. It was so bad on Friday, after applying the sealant (boatlife silicone) and finally getting everything in correctly without too much stray sealant on the pennant to foul things up, I had to give up getting all the bolts snug until mid Sat morning. I didnt finish torquing the 46 bolts I have until late in the afternoon on Saturday. At this stage its still only a 50/50 chance enough of those fasteners wont leak enough to ruin my season when I launch. Definitely thinking that if I get to buy another boat after a Rhodes, it will be a full keel boat. but at this point I have to be real and just try to get this baby to float again.
