Outboard repair question

Most 2 cycle engines only have two adjustments. One is the idle stop screw  
which adjusts the idle speed. The other adjustment is the idle mixture 
screw.  This adjusts how much gas you are burning at idle. Not that hard to 
adjust. Get  the engine running at what you consider to be a good idle speed and 
then adjust  the idle mixture screw until the engine is running smoothly. A 
 little on the rich side is better than to lean. You may  have to tinker 
with both of them until you get it right, but these are really  simple engines.
I would also recommend taking some carb cleaner with you and spray it down  
the throat of the carb while the engine is running. Probably isn't 
necessary,  but couldn't hurt.

why I'm thinking Rummy may be right. I'm certain the carb will need  some
serious adjustment once I can get it to run anywhere but wide  open.
