Frank,

Try backing the Rhodes in towards shore with the centerboard and rudder
raised using only the motor for direction and lay out your anchor line. Tie
off the front anchor line and then throw out a stern anchor to keep the stern
close to shore. You will be able to step off in about a foot of water or so
unless your shore line is extremely steep. Remember, with the centerboard
raised, the R22 can go where larger boats cannot.

Thanks for the welcome, Rob. Stan has great things to say about the
owners,
and it is already clear what a great group this is.

Dinghy: my wife and I take short overnights--20-30 miles downriver--to
streams feeding into the Potomac. We often stay in lovely little isolated
anchorages (I will share the secrets for anyone interested). On these
trips
we normally take a 20 lb. Boston Terrier. Our usual procedure is to hop in
the dinghy and go to shore so that Winston (the terrier, named after
Churchill) can do his business before we go to bed. Once we are anchored,
we would like to stay anchored, so the dinghy (with electric motor) serves
this purpose. Admittedly, this is from earlier cruising experience, but we
have been thinking of taking this same approach with the Rhodes. Hence
the
dingy.

Frank,
Welcome aboard. Be prepared for some (sometimes) interesting
conversations.
Question, why the dingy? - rob
