Caesar,
Short answer, both trunks are virtually identical and both boards have a  
pin. It's just a matter of placement for proper lowering.
I have intimate knowledge with both types.

Stephen,

You are correct.  I have a 1986 with the old  centerboard that Stan
recycled in 2005.  Don't know anything about  maintenance or leaks yet.

I am not sure that is correct. My 86 has the old board & Stan  recycs  
those I think.
