Stan has answered this question on the list many times. The R22 sails  
better with the nose down. I am assuming that you purchased this boat from  
someone recently and it was probably added by the previous owner. Only problem I 
 have with it is that it is loose and not secured in any way. If it starts  
sliding around, it could damage the hull. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope it
