John,
That would be adding 400 pounds to your boat. I would want to get that
amount of weight as low as possible in the boat. I would also check the rated
usage of the motors at various speeds and determine the longest you could
travel. I don't do it often anymore, but I have been known to motor to the
other end of our lake which takes almost two hours at 6mph. I wonder if they
could make the trip on a single charge?

Rick,

I saw a boat (32') for sale on e-bay once that had an electric inboard in
place of the diesel. When sailing the motor became a generator and charged
the battery but that would compromise sailing performance. my idea is 2 12V
65# thrust minkotas (you can get them cheep on e-bay) one on each corner of
the transom and a 4 battery bank (AGMs) to drive them and provide house
power. Hydraulic pistons to raise/lower them and solar panels for
recharging. by setting one thruster on forward and one in reverse I should
be able to maneuver in the marina without need for the tiller although it
is
there if needed. 130# of thrust should get the boat to hull speed if need
be. This is a rough outline I haven't done any homework yet to size the
batteries and calculate endurance or recharge times. Any knowledge forum
members have on this subject is welcomed as always.
