Bill,
Sending the boat back to Stan is a good idea at this point. It is obvious  
that some of the rigging was not done properly. I would still like to see a  
photo of the front stay connector from a couple of angles.

Rick:  The chainplate strap is covered with the anchor.   As far as I could 
tell the jib didn't flail; it just took off toward the back  starboard 
side.  The stay that ripped would be the one with the maximum  stress since the 
mast flew off in the same direction as the jib.  We  narrowly missed getting 
hit by other stays; we have lifelines which held  everything up providing 
some protection.  It seemed as if everything went  at once with a bang.  
Thanks for the comment on the spinnaker bolt; when  we bought the boat there 
were two jibs; no spinnaker.  I am going to send  the boat back to NC and let 
them figure it out and fix it.
