Kathy, It depends on the lake, but yes, generally speaking you need an anti-fouling layer. On Lake Hartwell, any boat without anti-fouling will get a stripe around the hull at the water line in just a days use. It's caused by algae in the water. That being said, I sailed for several seasons without it, but found myself cleaning the bottom while in the water more often. I used a dive mask and snorkel and a sponge to simply wash the algae off the bottom. I've found that bottom paint is better. Rummy In a message dated 10/16/2010 8:34:21 P.M.
