Chris,
You have just elevated yourself in my view. What a wonderful attention
getter. I bet they paid attention the remainder of the semester. That is truly
outstanding

But it can also be entertaining and educational. One of my demo
experiments
is to take a 5 gallon water cooler jug and put in about a teaspoon (8ml) of
methyl alcohol in the jug and shake it up. The alcohol vaporizes and the
jug looks empty. I do this before the kids come in and place a Styrofoam
cup upside down on the top. I announce my new burp energy converter
invention and get a kid to come up and burp in the jug. I claim that burps
have huge energy content. The skeptics want me to prove it. When I ask how
I can do it, the solution to most any question in 8th grade science is to
set it on fire. I make a small hole in the inverted cup and drop a match
in; the kids expect nothing will happen. Wrong! It goes off with a huge
roar, a 3 foot tongue of blue flame blasts out, and if I have the ratio
right, I usually knock out a ceiling tile. Oh yeah, the kids who are
always
leaning back on two legs of their chairs, they fall over. Priceless.
