You definitely have the diamond board. The pendent attachment is rock solid engineering and does not fail. The pin is a plastic called UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) and is readily available at any plastics distributor. It is self lubricating and is a great bearing material. You will experience minimal wear over many years of use. It is ten times stronger than steel by weight. The torque specs for the cap bolts are: snug it up and compress the gasket somewhat. If you find yourself breaking any bolts while doing this, you are using to much pressure. I find several electric screwdrivers to come in handy. If you have a ten year old with small hands, this would be a good time to introduce them to the joys of sailing. Rummy In a message dated 2/20/2011 6:47:49 P.M. I've got some questions and am hoping you can provide answers. Does anyone know if there is a torque spec for the 50+ bolts that hold the cap on the centerboard well? Some of the bolts on Harmony were not very tight, some were kinda tight, and some were fairly snug. There was no hose in the slots on either side of the board. I guess that's why the board rattled so much even when it was up. Take a look at the pictures. Can anyone tell me if the centerboard is the diamond board or the older standard board? One picture shows the centerboard pin. It looks to me like it is solid fiberglass. ?? Does this make sense? Seems like I ought to replace this with a stainless pin with plastic bushings. One picture shows the connection of the centerboard pendant to the board. Not sure whether I like it or not. Anybody have any opinions about its reliability? Thanks, JoeSee the original archive post
