David, This is a great question which we resolved on the list about seven years ago. With the help from a mechanical engineer, we determined that the scoop is to be pointed towards the stern of the vessel. It actually is more efficient this way and won't allow rain to enter the Rhodes. It has something to do with the ventury effect. Rummy In a message dated 9/21/2011 2:40:38 P.M. So far we have only day sailed as we have owned the boat for only a month. Thanks Irene....... Do folks keep the scoop installed? Pointed forward to catch the wind while sailing or at anchor? Any problems of taking in spray while sailing? Do you leave it in while the boat is stored or docked? The little fellow is sitting in the drawer in the galley waiting to be installed......... -- Regards, David B. Craft Greensboro, NCSee the original archive post
