Sand the hole lightly to remove any accumulated dirt, clean with  
pressurized air and fill the hole with the gel coat repair material. Let dry,  sand 
smooth and repeat if necessary until the hole is filled. When finished you  
will be hard pressed to find the repair. Do not use acetone to clean the area 
as  it eats gel coat.

Yes, this is a  small but deep chip. It's a bit ragged at the surface edge. 
Will it be enough  to sand it into a smoother edge, so that the new 
fiberglass and the original  gelcoat abut each other? Then sand the glass smooth 
and recoat it using a  gelcoat repair kit? Or should I sand off a larger 
circle of gelcoat around the  hole?
