Most people use the rings incorrectly. Simply placing the ring through the hole in the turnbuckle isn't enough. It also has to go around one side of the turnbuckle. The shroud that came loose on my boat was one of the ones that was recently repaired and I never checked the ring install. I wonder if there was ever a ring in it. If the ring goes through the hole in the clevis pin it seems that the ring would need to be bent loose beyond all recognition in order for it to fall out.
