Reuben,
The molded portion under the V-berth area encloses the flotation foam. Respite always had a bow down configuration relative to the waterline. Don't know the cause, could have been water there or it was its normal  orientation. I don’t know how one could inspect in there. Stan or someone on the list, Roger Pihlaja seems to be a good go to, but so is Peter Nyberg, to ask. BTW, do you have much water in the anchor rode tray in the V-berth?

I have a similar set up at the aft portion of the V-Berth except the leaves on my boat are plywood. The holding tank is on the port side and the lithium battery and its charger was placed on the starboard side by Charles Gabriel (I have no idea how he got that 100 lb battery into that area).
But forward of that the floor of the V-berth seems to be fiberglass molded into the bow, extending from the bow back to the compartment with the holding and water tanks and then down to the hull of the boat. I don't see a way to actually see the hull at the forward portion of the boat or rinse out the salt water that I'm sure was there. (when I first got to the boat when I was told it was sinking it was indeed "bow down" and hanging on its lines.

By the way, what I thought was Pressboard is actually Cement Board (found a label on the back of one of the panels) and Wikeopedia tells me that is "Cement board is a backer board made from cement slurry and fiberglass mesh and is supposed to be unaffected by water. Charles Daniel suspects it was put in by a previous owner before it was refurbished at General Boats and left in place by Stan..I take that as good news.
