What’s the best way to attach a line to the bottom of the mooring ball. A metal shackle and bowline? Anchor hitch?

The fiberglass appears to be totally intact.  I never found the U ring but one of the bolts was still in there broken cleanly some rust present the backing plate on my 1990 boat appears to be wood and there was no metal plate present either on the outside or inside. We had a sudden gust about 40mph maybe a bit more on a windy but sunny day. Thanks for the warning on the glass. I’ll look again more closely tomorrow but I didn’t see anything as I was installing the new one.
