I have that same crutch on my Rhodes. I made one modification. I took a piece of laminated beam I had, cut it to size and then cut a U shape out of the center. The U is just barely wider than the narrow dimension of the mast. It is mounted on the back side and slightly lower than the roller so as not to impede the movement of the mast.
The purpose is to hold the mast in the proper position, with the side stay outriggers horizontal to the ground and the base of the mast properly aligned to easily remove/replace the mast base pin.
