Peter, I had the same issue with my CDI. I contacted CDI and they shipped me the parts needed to get it working again. I was told that the cup should be rinsed out regularly. Opening the cup and cleaning out debris and giving the bearings a good cleaning will improve performance and life of the furler. Prior to the failure, operation of the furler required almost all of my strength. After, it was almost operable with my fi gets. Respite is an 1989 Rhodes and recycled in 2005.  Unfortunately, the GBI refurbished program did not include overhauling the furling systems.
