I'm going to agree with Lee on this. The only spring loaded parts on an a Rhodes that I can think of are mast boom slider, the pip top slider, and if so equipped, the holder on the bow pulpit where the mast attaches while trailering.

Sorry to hear but glad it's not my old boat 😀. Just as valuable as General
Boats' Certificate of Support, you have mine too!

Since you found it on the foredeck, I'm guessing it may be the
spring-loaded pull pin that secures the bottom of the mast to the bow
pulpit while trailering. Might also be from the pop top or boom sliders.
