Barry,

I'm just coming into this thread. Can you tell us what headsail arrangement you have?

The original General Boats headsail furler was a simple aluminum pole/tube with a spool or sometimes just a single plate on the bottom.

The headstay was threaded up through the center of that pole and the entire furler tube rotated around the headstay on delrin or other plastic bushings top and bottom.

The Genoa had a sleeve along the luff of the sail which slid down over the furler tube. The sail was secured to the tube top and bottom with a screw and SS fender washer bent to wrap against the tube, so there was no halyard to lower the sail without taking the mast down.

I think the second type of furling units used were off the shelf CDI brand furlers which do have a halyard and an extruded plastic luff foil to allow changing the headsail with the mast up.
